Appointments: Eight promoted at Brabners; Axon IT & more

LAW firm Brabners, which has offices in Liverpool, Manchester and Preston,  has promoted one partner, five senior associates and two associates.

Intellectual Property expert Colin Bell is the new partner. He joined the firm  in 2007 having spent five years at a major London firm where he trained.

He has extensive experience in all aspects of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property law including patents, trademarks, copyright, database rights, design rights and domain names, as well as in brand management and strategy and registration of trade marks.

In addition, the following lawyers have all been promoted to senior associate: Dewi Paddock and Helen Brown (property), Paul Ryman (employment), Richard Hough (commercial and pharmacy) and Simon Lewis (corporate).

Meanwhile Jack Froggatt and Philip Steele (litigation) have become associates.

MACCLESFIELD IT  firm Axon has appointed Tim Parkinson as operations manager.

Mr Parkinson, who has 14 years’ experience,  joins from Diversity Travel in Manchester, where he worked as IT and client solutions manager.

Axon has seen sizeable growth in the past three years with revenues increasing 88% from £824,808 in 2011 to £1,585,000 in 2014.

Managing director Tim Mears said: “Over the past 18 months we have seen our efforts to change to a cloud computing specialist really start to pay off. Our customer base increased by 100% in 2013 and staffing levels grew by a third. We are delighted to welcome Tim on-board to further strengthen our dedicated team and look forward to seeing the results of his contribution.”

COMMERCIAL law firm Turner Parkinson has boosted its insolvency and restructuring team with the appointment of solicitor Mark Hague.

Mr Hague joins from Stockport firm Gorvins and has experience in dealing with all aspects of both personal and corporate insolvency and has handled a broad range of matters including issues arising out of bankruptcy, IVAs, property transactions, administrations, liquidations as well as advising directors on claims by insolvency practitioners for misfeasance, wrongful trading, preferences and transactions at an undervalue.

PROPERTY firm DTZ has expanded its retail agency team with the appointment of Will Thomas as associate director.  

Mr Thomas joins DTZ from Liverpool-based Mason Owen and Partners. Over the last 14 years he has dealt with both retail and leisure across the region. His previous clients include Tesco, Iceland, Bruntwood and Downing. Based in Manchester, Will will be taking the lead on retail agency dealing with acquisition and disposals for retail and leisure clients including Vodafone, Virgin Money and Robinson’s Equestrian.

He will also be working on disposals on behalf of existing DTZ clients Manchester City Council, Manchester Metropolitan University and the Royal Bank of Scotland / Nat West.

BURY-based air movement and ventilation ductwork specialist, Hargreaves, has appointed Shaun Byrne as national sales manager for its northern trade counter network.

Mr Byrne who has 20 years’  experience including a recent stint as  European sales manager for Kingspan Insulation.

Hargreaves’ trade operations director, Dave Archer, said: “During the past year we have invested heavily in our trade counter network, including the opening of a new operation in Aberdeen. Shaun’s appointment brings valuable sector knowledge to our team and will be instrumental in achieving our expansion plans and building upon Hargreaves’ excellent reputation in the industry.”

PROPERTY lawyer Garry Abrams has joined Liverpool practice Gregory Abrams Davidson  as a consultant solicitor.

Working out of GAD’s Mathew Street and Penny Lane offices, Mr. Abrams will add strength  to the conveyancing department.

His particular interest over the past 15 years has been helping landlords and prospective landlords nationally to establish and build up property portfolios as well as assisting and advising them generally.

He will also continue his role of staffing the legal advice desk at Liverpool auctions held regularly by Sutton Kersh.
