Demolition progresses at Dominvs site

SALFORD demolition firm Anthony O’Connor has made rapid progress on the demolition of the former Labour Exchange in Manchester to make way for a 300-bed four-star hotel.

London-based developer Dominvs Group is behind the £17m Aytoun Street project which will be operated by IHG’s Holiday Inn brand.

It is expected the hotel will take around 18 months to build and will create 150 jobs during construction and around 60 positions when opened.

Dexter Moren & Associates has been hired as interior designer and style consultants and McAleer Rushe as building contractor.

London-based Dominvs is backed by Sukhpal Singh Ahluwalia, the entrepreneur who sold Euro Car Parts for £280m three years ago.

Dominvs bought the Employment Exchange from accountancy group Deloitte which was administrator of Liverpool-based Albany Estates which had plans to build a 44-storey tower with a mix of apartments and hotel rooms on the site.

The hotel will sit behind Malmaison and next to the Doubletree by Hilton at Piccadilly Place. Construction has started on a 330-bed Motel One on London Road and Yo Sushi! entrepreneur Simon Woodroffe has submitted plans for a 258-bed hotel under the Yotel brand at 12-16 Piccadilly.
