Lakes hotel changes hands

THE 57-bed Best Western hotel in Windermere has changed hands for £3.1m.

It has been sold, along with the Parklands Country Club, by receivers acting for administrators of Riverside Hotels.

Accountancy group BDO was appointed to the business, owned by Mark Taylor, early last year as well as Taylor Hotels (Grasmere), trading as the Red Lion Hotel.

The Windermere property has been acquired by GGE, run by a local businessman called Richard Berry who runs the Kendal gastro pub Romneys.

He said: “The Best Western Burnside Hotel has a lot of potential and has a good level of existing trade to build on. The hotel’s location in the Lake District has masses of appeal and is bound to ensure its future success.”

Julian Troup, head of UK Hotels Agency of Colliers International which marketed the property, said: “The business has a strong trading base despite being in administration, partly down to its iconic position overlooking Lake Windermere. This, coupled with the availability of staff accommodation in the town and included in the sale, made the hotel a very desirable business opportunity.”

The property was jointly marketed by GVA.
