Liverpool seeks CPO for Bellway scheme

LIVERPOOL City Council is seeking compulsory purchase powers for 120 properties in the Kensington district of the city.

They stand in the way of the third, 149 unit phase of a 450 house development by Bellway Homes in Edge Hill.

The council’s cabinet is resorting to a compulsory purchase order because it believes the residential and commercial properties in its sights can not be acquired by agreement within a “reasonable timescale”.

A council document said: “This residential development will form the scheme underpinning the proposed compulsory purchase order (CPO) and proceeding with the scheme will enable the council to deliver its commitments to improve housing choice and enable the ongoing regeneration of the Edge Hill area.”

The first phase was delayed by the recession but work is expected to start soon. Phase two has been completed. The planned CPO will affect properties in Marmaduke Street, Martensen Street, Cicely Street, Winifred Street, and Wavertree Road.
