Ambitious law firm MLP in funding boost

MLP Solicitors, the Altrincham-based firm has agreed a six-figure funding deal to boost its growth by developing its business services division.

The firm has moved its banking from Royal Bak of Scotland to Yorkshire Bank in Manchester, which has provided a £640,000 funding package to help the practice grow its £1.8m turnover by 15% in the next 12 months.

Founded in 1989, MLP Solicitors has 30 staff and is based on Market Street in the town. Earlier this year founder Michael Lister stood down as managing director as commercial partner Stephen Attree took over the reins.

Mr Attree said: “In the last 25 years MLP has evolved into one of the leading law firms in our market. As an established brand we are currently looking to increase our footprint in the North West, employing more staff and increasing our turnover as we continue to help regional businesses grow by getting the right legal structures in place.

“We welcome the support of Yorkshire Bank which has taken the time to understand the way we work and has helped us to start working towards realising our long term ambitions.”

The deal was led by Yorkshire Bank’s business development manager Simon King and relationship manager Helen Miller.

Sean Williams, head of Yorkshire Bank’s business and private banking centre in Manchester said: “MLP Solicitors are a welcome addition to our existing portfolio and we look forward to working more closely with them in the years to come.

“The experience, drive, and commitment shown by Stephen and his team, represents all that is good about the entrepreneurial spirit of businesses in the North West.”
