New plan for former Reece’s Ballroom

LIVERPOOL developer Jamworks has a fresh plan for Liverpool’s former Reece’s Ballroom, the location of John and Cynthia Lennon’s wedding reception in 1962.

Three years ago a company called TP Hotel (Liverpool) won consent for a budget hotel proposal at the building but this has expired and an extension was refused because a section 106 agreement was not agreed.

Now Jamworks, owned by Neil Carlyle, wants to convert the upper floors of 11-17 Parker Street into 91 apartments – 72 dubbed “micro apartments” and 19 one-bed.

The company says the small flats are aimed at the young professional market and the council is keen to see the upper floors of the building come back into use after lying empty for more than 20 years. The ground floor units are occupied by Superdrug and William Hill.

Jamworks is also working on a plan to turn the Bridewell of Dale Street into student accommodation and the renovation of a Georgian terrace on Dale Street, opposite the Municipal Buildings.
