Landmark building for Liverpool management school

LIVERPOOL University is planning an “eye-catching” extension to its management school with a new teaching and research building for up to 450 students.

It is seeking consent for a four-storey block on a surface car park in Grove Street next to the existing management school.

According to a council agenda document for this week’s planning committee, the aim is to create an “eye-catching structure which will announce the management school beyond the campus, animating Grove Street”.

The project also includes the refurbishment of the existing building but that work is not included in the application.

The council’s planning officers have recommended the scheme is approved and said: “It is recognised that this is will make a positive contribution to the strengthening of Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter, enhancing the reputation of this school.

“It is considered that the loss of 43 car parking spaces can be mitigated with careful travel planning and a clear car parking strategy which are to be submitted in advance of the development commencing on site. The interface distance with the nearby student accommodation is limited but not unusual in city centre locations and mitigation measures to deal with potential overlooking have been proposed.”

There was no comment from the university.
