Protestors gear up to oppose Redrow plans

OPPONENTS to the sale of Sefton Park Meadows to housebuilder Redrow have pledged to voice their concerns at a public consultation on Tuesday.

Liverpool City Council has selected Redrow as its preferred development partner six-acre site, which is outside the boundary of Sefton Park but within a conservation area.

But the £10m land sale is conditional on Redrow winning planning consent.

The authority has said the land is “surplus to requirements” and was earmarked for housing when the park was built. It wants to see a “high quality scheme which is sensitive to the area” and is keen to bolster its coffers with sale proceeds.

Redrow’s plans will be on show at the Greenbank Sports Academy, Greenbank Lane, Liverpool, on September 16.

Ken Aspinall, chair of the Save Sefton Park Meadows Campaign Group, said: “We are expecting a large group of protestors for the ‘public consultation’, this Tuesday afternoon, who want to voice their opinion over these outrageous plans to sell-off Sefton Park Meadows.

“We will robustly oppose these plans to sell off our valuable green space used by thousands for the benefit of a few ‘executive home’ owners. Liverpool’s mayoral led authority is joining forces with Redrow to build over our treasured green and pleasant land.”
