Waitrose sets opening date for Piccadilly store

WAITROSE will open its second supermarket in Manchester city centre in mid-October.

The new shop, at Gateway House on the Piccadilly station approach, will become the retailer’s ninth branch in the North West since opening its first store in the region 10 years ago.

The 3,000 sq ft unit will employ around 60 staff.

Shop manager James Dudgeon said: “This new branch will be the first little Waitrose to open outside the South East for two years. Manchester Piccadilly station is a major transport hub for both local and national commuters and the new shop is a great opportunity to introduce the brand to an even wider audience.”

In the summer Gateway House was sold by Manchester-based Realty Estates to LaSalle Investment Management for around £25m.
