Supermarket sweep: Consent for Lymm store; Morrisons to open in Rochdale

SALE-based Brookhouse Group has secured planning consent for a new supermarket in Lymm, Cheshire.

The 6,500 sq ft shop, with parking for 57 cars, will be built in Rushgreen Road on the site of a former petrol station.

Around 35 full time jobs are expected to be created but a supermarket operator is not yet attached to the scheme.

Tom Whitehead, town planning manager at Brookhouse, said: “This is a fantastic result and we now look forward to further progressing the proposal, including confirming the operator. As well as bringing this derelict land back into use, the store will offer a number of benefits to the local community.

“The supportive feedback we received highlighted that many residents are looking forward to the prospect of new jobs and greater choice as well as the chance to carry out more of their food shopping in Lymm instead of surrounding towns.”

Construction is likely to start later this year with the new store expected to be open in summer 2015. The Brookhouse project team included town planners Alyn Nicholls and Associates; Cassidy Ashton; Croft Transport Solutions, Hyder Consulting, CgMs Consulting, and Social PR.

MORRISONS is planning to create 20 jobs at a new convenience shop in Rochdale town centre.

The group is opening an M Local at the former Nile nightclub building in Smith Street which has been empty for several years.

Richard Ward of developer Millerbrook Properties said: “Morrisons represents a key milestone in the delivery of this exciting mixed-use project which will also comprise a cafe/wine bar facing onto The Butts for which discussions are on going with potential occupiers.”
