BIRKENHEAD-based Peter D Welch Electrical Contractors has won the electrical engineering contract at Raby Hall care home.

The facility in Bromborough is have a new building constructed and is upgrading current facilities.

It cares for people with autism, severe communication skills and sensory difficulties.

The project is being led by Wirral Autistic Society (WAS) which is looking to raise £935,000 through its Lifetime Appeal to complete the build.

LANCASHIRE lighting firm The Light Yard has seen a spike in orders and inquiries after former Dragons’ Den star Theo Paphitis retweeted a message about the business.

Jeff Fuller, who owns the Leigh-based firm, tweeted about his business during Small Business Sunday, an initiative set up by Paphitis.

Paphitis re‐tweeted the message to his 445,000 followers which led to extra orders for the business’s handcrafted pendant and wall lights. The Light Yard has also been profiled on a new website for Small Business Sunday winners.

Mr Fuller said: “We’ve only been in business a year and I still work from an office at home. It is great to have support from Theo because it’s been tough trying to raise our profile. This award is recognition of all our hard work and has helped spread the word about what we do.”

TWO surveyors at property and construction consultancy Rider Levett Bucknall in Manchester have been shortlisted in the RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Awards.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) competition recognises and celebrates young surveying professionals in the UK.

RLB’s Sam Bensky has been shortlisted in the Building Surveying Category and Danny Roberts has been shortlisted in the Project Management category. 

Winners in each category and the overall Young Surveyor of the Year will be announced at the awards dinner on November 14 at the Marriott, Grosvenor Square Hotel in London.

MANCHESTER accountants Sedulo has raised £500,000 of tax refunds for its clients through HM Revenue & Customs’ research and development relief scheme.

Under the scheme spening on research attracts a corporation tax relief of 225%.

Sedulo has worked on 20 projects with an average refund of around £25,000.

Paul Cheetham of Sedulo said: “We are delighted to reach this milestone and to be honest we will break £1m much quicker. We have up to now a 100% success rate on these reclaims. HMRC are actively encouraging UK companies to pursue this claim and awareness of it is has been raised significantly. Our dealings with Manchester’s HMRC R&D unit have all had a positive outcome.”
