Barwood buys Goodrich factory

BARWOOD DEVELOPMENTS is planning to speculatively develop a 204,000 sq ft logistics base at Goodrich’s factory in Huyton, Liverpool.

It has spent £5.2m acquiring the 175,000 aerospace parts factory at Huyton Business Park which is due to close next year.

Goodrich’s parent UTC Aerospace Systems announced plans to close the factory last year with the loss of 350 jobs. It acquired the business in 2011 and said it needed to move the work overseas to remain competitive.

Barwood director Andrew Dickman said: “Through the acquisition of this facility, we have an opportunity to ensure that the site doesn’t become redundant following the closure of the factory and instead, benefits from inward investment that will hopefully lead to job creation for the locality.

“The site is prominently positioned in a much sought after location adjacent to a busy motorway junction and we believe that our proposals will generate strong demand in a recovering market where there is now a serious lack of supply of good quality industrial and warehousing stock.”

Huyton Business Park is close to junction 6 of the M62 and junction 1 of the M57. Occupiers include Parcel Force, Olympic Oils and Halewood International Holdings.

CBRE acted for the vendor, CBRE Global Investors, and has been appointed by Barwood to market the proposed space.
