Green light for GSK factory

A NEW GSK drugs factory in Ulverston should create hundreds of jobs.

The pharmaceutical group GSK has secured planning permission for a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility, its first new UK factory for 40 years.

South Lakeland District Council aproved the plans on September 25.

Work is expected to start on site in 2016 and it should be up and running by 2021. Around 700 jobs will be created during cthe construction phase, including about 250 once the first part is fully operational.

Pat McIver, the GSK site biopharm lead, said: “We are very pleased that the council has approved our planning application. Everyone at the company is excited to see this important project moving forward. GSK is proud to have been part of the community in Ulverston for more than 65 years and we believe this new factory will make a significant contribution to the local economy.”
