The Gate Films buys new HQ

MANCHESTER production company The Gate Films has moved from Castlefield to Ancoats after acquiring a building from the NHS.

The company, which has created adverts for the likes of Shop Direct and JD Sports, has invested more than £1m renovating and fitting out the 6,000 sq ft building in Naval Street.

The value of the property deal was not disclosed.

The Gate plans to add 10-15 staff to its 40-strong team over the coming year to work in post-production, interactive technology and other roles. Its new office has three edit suites and a screening room.

Chief executive Simon Lewis said: “This past year has been our most successful ever, we’ve won business with big-name agencies like McCann and worked with clients such as Vauxhall, Topman and The Scottish Government. We’ve also put down permanent roots in the capital and launched an exciting new animation offering.

“Manchester is where we started our journey almost 20 years ago, and our location has played a big part in the success of our business. The media scene has exploded here over the last few years and the city is a hot bed for emerging talent – something we’ve really been able to tap into.”
