Better Bathrooms expands on two fronts

FAST-growing retailer and supplier Better Bathrooms is investing in its first store in Yorkshire and is also opening a distribution centre in Oxfordshire to serve its southern customers.

The company, based at Greenfold Way, Leigh, is aiming to grow sales from £32m to £40m over the next year, is creating 80 jobs at its 166,000 sq ft  warehouse in Didcot.

Backed by the Business Growth Fund, Better Bathrooms said its York showroom, its sixth overall, will open on October 26. The retailer has agreed a 10-year lease on a 19,772 sq ft unit at Stirling Road, Clifton Moor,

Founder and chief executive Colin Stevens said: “Our new high bay modern warehouse is going to add a whole new level to the customer service we offer, I’m very excited about the location as it now means we can offer our premium home delivery service up to 10pm, seven days a week.

“It’s great too to be expanding into Yorkshire. We have recruited a great team who are friendly, knowledgeable and from the local area. We are very excited about the store and the opportunity to be part of the Yorkshire community. The new showroom looks great and it is a fantastic addition to the Better Bathrooms’ brand.”

Mr Stevens founded the business from his bedroom selling taps on eBay. After five very successful days of offering items at such a fantastic margin it lead to Stevens’ expansion into other bathroom fixtures and fittings; and in 2001 www.betterbathrooms.com was born, a domain that would soon become the brand.

In 2007, Better Bathrooms annual turnover stood at just over £1m and it has grown rapidly, winning a host of awards.

Its existing stores are located at Wigan, Warrington, Manchester, Leicester and Slough and it also operates a trade counter in Leigh.
