200-acre ex-Shell site comes to market

A 200-acre chunk of Anglesey is on the market in a sale being handled by DTZ’s Manchester office.

A former Shell oil storage depot in the countryside near Amlwch is being sold by the Isle of Anglesey Charitable Trust.

It was developed by Shell in 1972 to store crude oil from the port at Amlwch before being piped to the refinery at Stanlow, Ellesmere Port.

A large part of the site has been cleared but still has twelve raised concrete tank platforms and an internal road network, a rail line and sidings.

The charitable trust was established in 1990 by the former Anglesey Borough Council to administer money received from Shell when the company closed the oil terminal.

DTZ said the land has been identified as a strategic site as part of Anglesey’s Energy Island Programme which is positioning the island as a centre for low carbon energy.

DTZ industrial director Tony O’Keefe said: “The site is suitable for a number of uses, particularly within the environmental sector and we are seeking initial expressions of interest on 12 December 2014.”
