HS2 station to be built next to ‘millionaires’ row’

AN image has been released of Manchester Airport’s proposed HS2 station – a stone’s throw from an exclusive residential address in Hale Barns.

Royal London Asset Management (RLAM) owns 300 acres of agricultural land around Davenport Green, close to junction 6 of the M56, which is the proposed location of the station and a cutting which will take trains into an eight-mile tunnel to Piccadilly.

The closest residential street is Brook’s Drive where homes change hands for around £2m. None of Hale’s residential agents could be reached to discuss the station’s impact on the local housing market.

An image has also been released by architect Farrells of the proposed Crewe “superhub” which will connect other rail services to the HS2 network at a new station around 800 metres fromcrewe superhub the existing one.

RLAM’s head of property, Gareth Dickinson said: “We strongly share the view of Greater Manchester’s leaders that a Manchester Airport Station offers a major opportunity to boost the economic benefits of HS2 for the city region.

“We have already written to HS2 Ltd making clear our support for a new Manchester Airport Station and proposed a station configuration on our land at Davenport Green that maximises the opportunity to create new jobs, improves local connectivity and saves money. Our focus is on integrating the station into a modern transport system to attract high profile businesses into Greater Manchester.”

RLAM is planning to develop the land around an airport station and says it could create at least 8,000 jobs. The line should reach Crewe by 2027.
