JLR supplier ‘lined up for Omega’

A PLASTICS supplier to Jaguar Land Rover at Halewood is understood to be taking the first phase of planned manufacturing space at Warrington’s Omega industrial park.

According to sources, French group Plastic Omnium has agreed to take the 200,000 sq ft facility which was granted planning consent last week.

The move follows a supplier shake-up at Jaguar Land Rover, which makes the Evoque and the Discovery Sport at Halewood.

In September Merplas, a Halewood-based bumpers and moulded plastics supplier, told staff it was considering job cuts after losing a contract with JLR. The car manufacturer said the switch was linked to the supply of bumpers and spoilers for “an entire model range” – likely to be the Discovery Sport which went into production in September, replacing the Freelander.

At the time JLR added: “This will result in the establishment of a brand new, high tech facility in the North West bringing with it significant investment in the region.”

Omega, at the former Burtonwood air base, is being developed by Omega Warrington Ltd (OWL), a joint venture between Miller and Royal Bank of Scotland-owned KUC Properties.
