Eric Wright gets creative in Carlisle

ERIC Wright Construction has completed a £3.7m contract to build a creative arts and media building at Carlisle College.

The 128-seat theatre also has a dance studio, rehearsal spaces, and an art studio.

The scheme, designed by architecture firm Broadway Maylan, is a new build but retains a facade deemed to have historical interest.

Eric Wright’s managing director John Wilson said: “This is a visually attractive building that will inspire and encourage the performers, artists, musicians, back-stage workers and technicians of the future. Even though we have extensive experience in the education sector, it’s always nice to work on something unique and it was a pleasure to deliver this project for the young people of Carlisle and beyond.”

Christine Foxton, curriculum team manager at the College, said: “The new home for Carlisle College of the Arts is designed to ensure that our students get the best possible learning experience and achieve their goals. Our fantastic new building includes a theatre, dance studio, TV studio, music and music technology labs, fashion and textile rooms, art studios and gallery space.”
