SRA shuts down Stirling Law

A MANCHESTER law firm has been shut down by the Solicitors Regulation Authority on suspicion of dishonesty.

The SRA said it had acted against Stirling Law, based in Duke Street, just before Christmas because there was, “reason to suspect dishonesty on the part of a manager or employee of a recognised body in connection with that body’s business”.

It added that the firm had failed to comply with the rules set out in section 9 of the Administration of Justice Act 1985.

In August the SRA banned Stirling Law director Glyn Willmott from conveyancing work and insisted he took a course on money laundering and mortgage fraud. The regulator did not explain the reasons for this action but said it was “necessary, reasonable and proportionate in the public interest”.

The SRA has appointed John Owen of Gordons in Bradford as the intervening agent.
