New year, new home for KPMG

KPMG has entered a new era in the region today as it opened for business at its flagship office at One St Peter’s Square, Manchester.

The accountancy firm, which has 700 staff in Manchester and 30 partners, has taken a total of 73,500 sq ft of space across the top three and a half floors. It has its own dedicated entrance and reception area on the ground floor.

KPMG, which has spent the Christmas break moving the short distance from John Dalton Street, will be joined in the 13-storey building by international law firm DLA Piper, in what is expected to be a busy year for professional service office relocations, with two of the other Big Four fims,  EY and PwC possibly looking beyond Barbirolli Square for their new bases and law firm Slater & Gordon opening its new office at 58 Mosley Street, where it will be bringing together staff from the Manchester firms it has acquired including Pannone and Fentons.

Jon Holt, senior partner, KPMG’s Manchester office, said: “We’re delighted to kickstart the new year by moving into our fantastic new home. From the outset, we have been overwhelmed by the scale of the ambition of the One St Peter’s Square project – an ambition which is only matched by the ambition of Manchester itself as a world-class city.

“With the fantastic redevelopment of St Peter’s Square, Manchester Town Hall, Library Walk and the Central Library all around us, we are proud to say we now have an unrivalled place at the heart of the city.

“In today’s dynamic, fast-paced 21st century business environment, collaboration is the key to success. To reflect this, we have created a space that we believe will truly foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and excellence.”

Mr Holt added: “Sustainability was also an important factor in the design and construction of our space. During the fit-out process, we took every step to minimise waste, procured sustainable timber and used environmentally friendly paint.

“Additionally, with support from the team at Argent (which developed the building), we have bird and bat boxes on the exterior walls of the building, and we are also hoping to install bee hotels later on this year – something which I’m sure will create a real buzz.”
