Slater & Gordon set for another regional swoop

SLATER & Gordon, the Australian legal consolidator, looks set to add to its UK buying spree.

The company is in talks to buy Liverpool-headquartered Quindell Legal Services from the troubled AIM-listed insurance services outsourcing group Quindell.

Including Liverpool personal injury firm Silverbeck Rymer, Quindell Legal Services has 750 staff across six locations. Its brands include Accident Advice Helpline, Fast Claim PPI and the Compensation Lawyers.

In a brief statement late on Thursday, Quindell said: “On January 2 2015, Quindell announced it had entered into exclusivity arrangements in respect of the possible disposal of an operating division of the group.

“The company notes the speculation concerning the identity of the third party and can confirm that Slater & Gordon Limited is the party referred to in previous announcements.

“There can be no certainty that these discussions will lead to an offer for, or the disposal of, an operating division of the group.”

In the last two years Slater & Gordon has swallowed Manchester firms including Pannone, Fentons, John Pickering & Co, having started the ball rolling in January 2012 with the £54m acquisition of  Russell Jones & Walker.

By staff numbers S&G is already the largest legal firm in Manchester. The company is continuing a major refurbishment project of offices on Mosley Street in Manchester city centre where it will bring more than 700 staff from the acquired firms under one roof.
