Ainscough sparks up electrical division

AINSCOUGH Industrial Group (AIG) has launched a new business AIG Electrical to deliver industrial electrical services to customers across the UK.

The move adds a sixth brand to the Wigan headquartered group which has grown rapidly in recent years, having doubled its turnover from £15m in 2011.12 to £28m in 2013/14, and with sales on target to hit £40m in the current financial year.

As well as supporting the group’s existing customers, which include Balfour Beatty, Tata Steel, Associated British Ports and Glaxo Smith Kline, the company says it will also target growth by bringing new relationships to AIG.

AIG Electrical will provide a range of industrial electrical contracting services including complete factory fit-outs, switchgear and control panel manufacture and installation, production-line installation and upgrades, as well as any testing and maintenance services.

The business is currently fitting out its new 2,500 sq ft premises in Bridgend, South Wales, which will provide a base for mobile teams of engineers. A second base in the North East is also planned to support delivery of services across the UK.

Heading the business will be new operations director Alun Lane, who has 30 years’ experience as an electrical engineer and has been with AIG for more than 10 years, latterly as contracts director at the group’s installation specialist business, AIG Vanguard.

“The opportunity for us to offer a more joined-up service to our customers by launching a dedicated electrical business has become increasingly clear in recent years, and we believe the investment we are making will improve the service we deliver to our existing customers, bring in new clients and, ultimately, allow us to grow,” he said.

The launch follows a restructuring and re-brand in April 2014 that saw the business organised into four new brands – AIG Projects, AIG Vanguard, AIG Engineering Services and AIG Offshore Renewables. A fifth business, AIG Seward Wyon, was also added to the group with the acquisition of a Bath-based engineering and design consultancy.

Matt Ainscough, group managing director at AIG, said: “A dedicated electrical business was a missing piece in the jigsaw for AIG when it comes to industrial re-locations, upgrades and fit-outs, and the launch of AIG Electrical means we now offer a truly end-to-end turnkey service.

“Up to this point, we have often needed to use external contractors to meet the more complex electrical requirements of projects, but the new business will allow us to carry out every aspect of a job in-house.”
