Global player’s £23m move to Omega

OMEGA Warrington has secured a deal to bring a global manufacturer to kick-start the new in the town.

A £23m forward funding agreement has been sealed following the approval of a planning application in November, which will see the as yet unnamed global leader occupy a 240,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility in Zone 7, Omega South.

Omega Warrington (OWL) is a joint venture between Miller Developments and KUC Properties Ltd in partnership- with landowner the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and supported by Warrington Borough Council and the Cheshire and Warrington LEP.

Omega says the arrival of the manufacturer will herald the expansion of its UK presence and provide a major boost for British industry and the local economy.

Joint managing director for Miller and partner of OWL, Andrew Sutherland, said: ““Having secured the North West’s biggest logistics deal in 2014, we are delighted to continue the momentum at the start of this year with a deal that heralds extremely positive news for local employment and the country’s manufacturing sector.

“Added to the recent deal with The Hut Group, this latest signing reflects the strength of Omega’s offer to the manufacturing and logistics industries, with access to a huge labour pool and manufacturing expertise within a 30-minute drive time from the site.

“The benchmark has been set for 2015, as we bring forward these developments and hopefully see more pipeline deals come into fruition.”

The occupier will service its customer network from its new Warrington base, which will also include 20,000 sq ft of offices on a c. 20-acres site. The deal represents a significant investment in the UK, which not only bucks national trends but will put Warrington firmly on the map as a major contributor for manufacturing in the North West.

Deborah McLaughlin, the HCA’s executive director in the North West, added: “We have worked hard with our partners over a number of years to transform Omega into a major high-quality employment area. This latest success, which brings yet another significant business to the development, is fantastic news for the people of Warrington and the wider region.”

Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “I am especially pleased that this will create hundreds of new manufacturing jobs and also that this represents business investment from an overseas company. Warrington was once again ranked as a top ‘city’ for growth in the recent Centre for Cities report and this announcement is a further endorsement of those findings.”
