100 jobs boost for telecoms firm

SMALL business telecommunications and utilities specialist Unicom has created 100 jobs following the company’s expansion into a newly refurbished office near Manchester.

Unicom says it enjoyed a positive 2014 and now claims to be second only to BT when it comes to attacting SMEs looking for landline calls and rental.

For the year ending April 2013, Unicom reported pre-tax profits of £25m (an increase of 25% on the previous financial year) on a turnover of £70m. It employs 500 people at 12 regional offices around the UK.

The company’s expansion in Northenden will provide the extra office space needed to take on more staff across every area of the business, including sales, customer service, retentions, contract processing and administration.

Unicom has taken out a 10-year lease on its new 12,647 sq ft property on Palatine Road, near its headquarters in Sharston.

Property investment company Hollins Murrary Group oversaw the widening of Unicom’s operations into the newly refurbished Four6Four office scheme.

“Four6Four met our requirements in terms of location and size and gives us the extra capacity required to expand our business further, creating up to a hundred positions in South Manchester,” said Unicom chief executive Chris Earle.
