Appointments: GVA: tp bennett; Gledhill; Lovell; HRC and more

 GVA has expanded with the appointment of Stephen Cowperthwaite as a senior director within the retail, hotels and leisure team.

Cowperthwaite, who has more than 25 years’ experience working in retail property, will be based in Liverpool but with a broader responsibility to lead the northern offer of the GVA team.
 
He has previously worked at GL Hearn and Mason Owen, and now represents both owners and occupiers of commercial properties, with a particular emphasis in the food retail and large space sectors. He has acted for all of the major food retailers Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Waitrose.

“I am excited to be joining GVA’s retail, hotels and leisure team,” he said. “The company has an excellent reputation with a remarkable client base. I’m looking forward to working with the team on some of the region’s most high-profile retail projects.”
 
His appointment follows the recent hire of Dan Hyde, a director in the retail, hotels and leisure Manchester team.

TP bennett has appointed a new architectural director at its Manchester office in response to growing demand in services after a successful five months in the North West.
 
Mark Barker will develop the practice’s architectural services and manage projects across the region and the wider north of England as well as supporting the growth of the office in line with tp bennett’s UK business strategy.
 
Barker has more than 30-years’ experience delivering multi-million pound architectural projects across the commercial and public sectors, including the new headquarters for the Horbury Group, Bradford Schools BSF programme, Rotherham Hospital and high-end residential.

He was also a winner of the British Homes Awards in 2014. In his previous role as managing director of property and design management services, NPS Leeds, Barker had overall responsibility for an office with a turnover in excess of £4m and more than 50 employees.

BLACKPOOL-based cylinder specialist Gledhill has appointed Andy Hirst to the role of sales director, with responsibility for developing and delivering the company’s sales strategy in the UK and across key export markets.

Bringing more than 20 years’ experience in the merchant sector to Gledhill, Hirst joins the company from Plumbase where he spent 10 years in a variety of roles, most recently as sales development director for the northern region.

Jason Hobson, managing director of Gledhill, said: “Andy has proven sales experience and an impressive track record in both trade counter and merchant environments, which makes him an ideal fit for us.”

AFFORDABLE housing developer and regeneration specialist Lovell has appointed Tahreen Shad as business development manager for its North West and North Wales region.
 
Based at Lovell’s regional office in Barrington Road, Altrincham, Cheshire she will help drive the continuing expansion of the company’s open market and affordable housing business across the region and further develop its strong relationships with key social housing providers.

HRC Law in Manchester has appointed Helen Marsh as a partner and head of the firm’s commercial property team.

She will provide a range of commercial property services to businesses, developers, funders and investors with particular expertise and experience in the retail sector.

BOLTON social housing contractor Forrest has recruited Neil Ashworth from Balfour Beatty to the newly created role of head of new-build housing.
Ashworth will support the business’s aim of growing its development activity across the country.
He has more than  25 years’ experience in the housing and construction sectors and previously held roles at Richardson Projects and Rok.
