Morson wins £100m contract with Network Rail

FAMILY-run technical recruitment company Morson International has signed a five-year £100m contract with Network Rail to be its prime supplier of contingent labour for several main routes in the UK.

Salford-based Morson will supply contingent labour to Scotland, LNE & LNW South and LNW North. It will also act as a secondary supplier to LNE North.

The contract is a significant part of Network Rail’s CP5 series of works across the UK. The awards will see a strategic chance in the number of suppliers from 57 to 20 with four core suppliers provding 70% of the workforce supported by a number of smaller specialist suppliers.

The win is the latest good news for Morson, which reported strong financial results in 2014 after a year of growth, with profits increasing by 13% to £13.4m as revenues surged 17.7% to £635.5m.

Chief executive of Morson Group Ged Mason said: “This is the major contingent labour contract for the UK, and will set the standard across the rail industry.

“There is a core emphasis on health and safety, training, pay and the supply of compliant workers; this has been a primary focus for Morson for the near-four decades we have supplied to the UK rail industry and we fully support this approach, as do our sister companies.”

Managing director of National Supply Chain Nick Elliott said: “These new contracts are all about transforming our contingent labour workforce into a more professional, fairly remunerated and appropriately trained body of people that we are able to call upon when the need arises.

The new code of conduct for labour will drive better employer behaviours, improve the quality of the supply chain and help ensure that workers are treated fairly.”
