Mach-Aire sold but workers still out in cold

A BUYER has been found for Bolton-based fume cupboard and ducting specialist Mach-Aire which went into administration two weeks ago.

But none of the 70 jobs which were lost when the £9m turnover company went to the wall on February 20 will be saved, according to new owners Atlas Clean Air, in Preston.

Administrators FRP Advisory in Manchester said it had sold elements of the trade and assets of Mach-Aire to Atlas, a specialist in isolation technologies and air handling systems.

Atlas will maintain the acquired Mach-Aire business as an independent trading subsidiary based at its Preston head office, ensuring continuity of service for Mach-Aire’s customers, FRP said.

FRP join administrators Tom MacLennan and Ben Woolrych said they received a number of approaches from interest5ed parties and, in Atlas, found what was considered the best solution for the company and its creditors.

This transaction follows Atlas’ previous successful acquisitions of the trade and assets of Clean Modules Limited and T Jolly Services (UK).

Paul Riley, managing director of Atlas said: “This latest acquisition is very much in line with our growth strategy and we shall ensure continuing support for the well-established Mach-Aire client base.
“The business has an enviable name for quality and reliability and our focus will be on retaining and developing those vital client relationships.”

Dareen Evans, of T Jolly Services said  so far there were no plans to recruit any of the Mach-Aire staff and it was uncertain whether or not any of its services would be based at the Horwich unit.
