Appointments: Browne Jacobson; Shoosmiths & more

LAW firm Browne Jacobson has promoted commercial dispute resolution lawyer Katie Scott to associate as part of its annual round of associate promotions.

Scott specialises in complex, high value commercial disputes arising in an insurance context including coverage and contract disputes and recovery actions.
 
She is one of 14 associate promotions announced by Browne Jacobson this month, a record for the firm and a demonstration of its commitment to its long term growth strategy. The other promotions were in the firm’s Birmingham, Exeter and Nottingham offices.

The promotions follow on from a strong 12 months for Browne Jacobson in which the firm posted a record turnover of £50.2m.

The promotions will take effect from 1st May 2015 and will bring the firm’s total number of associates to 88.

SHOOSMITHS has significantly grown its national asset finance practice with a total of five lawyers leaving DWF in Manchester and Birmingham to join the award winning Shoosmiths team.

The new head of Shoosmiths’ financial services team in Manchester, Janet Dalton, and associates Suzanne Taylor and Aleea Bhatoo will join in Manchester, and partner Roger Potgieter and solicitor Charlotte Healey will join the team in Birmingham.

Potgieter returns to his role as a partner at Shoosmiths, having spent time at Cobbetts and at DWF.
 
Dalton joins Shoosmiths having lead a non-contentious asset finance team at DWF, based in Manchester.

INTERNATIONAL invoice finance provider Bibby Financial Services has recruited David Riley as head of mergers and acquisitions to bolster the growth of its global business.
 
Reporting directly to global chief executive Simon Featherstone and a member of the global board, Riley will support the funder’s ambition to grow by identifying acquisition opportunities in its chosen geographies that will deliver the scale and capabilities required in the firm’s efforts to become the world’s leading SME finance company.
 
With more 20 years’ experience in the sector, Riley previously headed up Grant Thornton’s asset based lending (ABL) and invoice finance team nationally and has also worked at Ernst & Young. 
 
Riley said: “The opportunity to join a global independent ABL and invoice finance business does not come along often, and the role in the current market is particularly interesting and challenging. I am looking forward to the new challenge and the opportunity to take Bibby Financial Services forward.”
 
Simon Featherstone added: “We have ambitious plans to grow our business both domestically and internationally. David’s experience will complement our already experienced team and we are delighted he has joined us.”
