High growth retailer targets £100m

LEIGH-based Better Bathrooms, was the winner in the hotly-contested  Fast Growth Business category at the 2015 North West Masters Awards.

Launched in 2001 by Colin Stevens, the company has become a popular brand  through its customer service and product ranges, and has become a major employer too.

And it is something of a rags to riches story for entrepreneur Stevens. He explained: “I started the business in  a bedroom with not a penny to my name, but we’ve enjoyed very fast growth.

“But this has been down to help from the Business Growth Fund, when we started out. Without that we would not be where we are now with a turnover of £55m and expecting to be up to £100m within the next two years.

“We are aiming to open 30 nationwide stores with a total staff count of 500 in the next three to five years, and to conquer the European markets.

Stevens praised the support, both financial and in terms of giving him the confidence to drive forward, he received from The Business Growth Fund, which took a minority stake in the business two years ago.

Other nominees in the Fast Growth category BioClinics, Designer Habitat, and ITS Technology Group.

The Fast Growth category was sponsored by Influential and presented by its managing director Sara Wilde-McKeown.
