Phase Two of Salford scheme gets green light

THE second phase of the Chapel Street regeneration scheme in Salford has been given the green light by councillors who have approved plans for a new residential development.

Brought to the city by the team behind Vimto Gardens, the new site – which is situated behind St Philip’s Church – will comprise 36 townhouses.

The plans were submitted by English Cities Fund (ECf), which is delivering both the Chapel Street and New Bailey regeneration schemes. Work is expected to begin in summer 2015 and is likely to be completed by the end of 2016.

Phil Mayall, development director at ECf, said: “The development is set to deliver 36 beautiful homes to the area, as part of an extensive and ongoing regeneration scheme, aiming to breathe new life into this area of the city.

“After years of close work with Salford City Council and other partners, we’re delighted to have secured planning permission for this development and are committed to ensuring that this area of Salford gets the investment it deserves.”

Following the success of the townhouses at Vimto Gardens, the development will comprise of a range of two, three and four bedroom townhouses, which will be available to buy off-plan later this year, and are perfectly suited to the location. There will also be a communal courtyard and gardens for residents to enjoy.

Mayall said: “We’re sure that all eyes will be on the project as it progresses, especially considering the huge demand for homes at Vimto Gardens.”

All 14 of the Vimto Gardens townhouses sold off-plan within a month of the plots going on sale soon after they were released, and the first set of homeowners moved in to the development in December 2014. Remaining homes are set to be ready for completion later this spring.

Salford City Mayor, Ian Stewart, welcomed the development and said: “Salford Central is a prime location, as demonstrated by the demand for houses in the area, and I’m delighted to see more quality housing being planned which will regenerate the heart of our booming city.”

Salford Central – a major 44 acre regeneration scheme – aims to transform a key area of the city. It is being delivered by ECf – a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General and the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) – through an active partnership with Salford City Council.
