Jobs at risk at building contractor SCC

ADMINISTRATORS have been appointed to a £25m turnover construction company with nearly 150 staff.

Stockport-based SCC, design- build contractor and manufacturer of pre-fabricated concrete structures, has been hit by the recent failure of major customer GB Building Solutions, administrator KPMG said.

The majority of staff at SCC’s head office and production facility in Reddish and its base in Sheffield have been sent home temporarily while the administrators explore options to “preserve the business and asset values for the creditors”.

Joint administrators Paul Dumbell and Brian Green from KPMG in Manchester have retained a skeleton workforce at Reddish to assist them.

Paul Dumbell, said: “While the company had been experiencing difficult trading conditions in recent months, the insolvency earlier this month of one of SCC’s key customers, GB Building Solutions, had left a significant hole in the company’s cash flow, such that there was little option but to appoint administrators.”

“Over the coming days, we will be working closely with the management team and with suppliers and customers to explore all options for the business.”

SCC recently built a car park and the Melia Hotel at Manchester’s First Street development.
