Jobs lost as Motor World crashes

MORE than 300 jobs have been lost as a result of the administration of retailers Maccess and Motor World.

Administrators from the Manchester office of BDO, Dermot Power and Patrick Lannagan, said 34 Motor World stores had closed, although 32 had been acquired out of administration securing 109 jobs.

BDO said six North West shops had been shut with 22 job losses.

Prior to the insolvency the businesses were owned by Bury-based Tetrosyl Group, the maker of T-Cut and Carplan products.

A business, MWR Sales Limited, registered at Tertosyl’s address was the buyer of the 32 stores that will survive.

Dermot Power, joint administrator and restructuring partner at BDO, said: “The companies were loss-making for some considerable time prior to administration as a result of a difficult climate in the UK automotive aftermarket and reduced consumer demand.

“The parent company, Tetrosyl, could not continue to absorb further losses indefinitely. Under these circumstances, store closures and redundancies were inevitable, though regrettable. We are pleased that we have been able to preserve approximately half of the stores and 109 jobs.

“The sale was the best option to secure the future of the viable stores and protect jobs across the wider Tetrosyl group of companies, allowing the remaining stores to move forward on a secure financial footing.”
