Booths welcomes Hale Barns shoppers

BOOTHS’ newest food store in the south Manchester village of Hale Barns has been opened.

The 30,000sq ft shop, which has created 90 full and part time jobs, is the anchor tenant of the redeveloped Square in Hale Barns, a joint venture by Citybranch and Development Securities.

Booths Chairman Edwin Booth, who arrived by horse-drawn cart to mark the heritage of the business, said: “Booths is a food retailer like no other—proudly Northern, family run and independent. We take pride in our close links to our farmers and producers as well as the communities in which we trade.

“Booths works hard to develop strong and meaningful relationships with artisan suppliers both locally and globally.

“Retailing exceptional food and drink is the essence of Booths, and coupled with great knowledge and service, is what sets Booths apart from the crowd and marks us as special.”

Hale Barns is Booths 31st store and features a café and fresh food counters, including a butcher, fishmonger, delicatessen, hot food and cheesemonger.  In a busy year for the company it will also be opening stores in Burscough, St Anne’s and Poulton Le Fylde in its Lancashire heartland.

Preston-based Booths was founded as a tea import business in June 1847 and is now in the hands of the sixth generation of the family.

A number of Booths local suppliers attended the opening including: Cheshire Farm Chips, Burt’s Cheese, Tatton Brewery, Cheshire Farm Ice Cream, Hayman’s Gin, H Forman and Sons, Osem UK, Roots Vegetable Crisps, Huntapac Produce, local beetroot grower H & P Ascroft, Boutinot Wines, Dunbia, Neve Fleetwood seafood, Spanish Passion and Heler Cheese
