Pets at Home buys specialist vet practice

PETS at Home Vet Group has acquired Northwest Surgeons, a referral centre for veterinary practices across the region.

Northwest Surgeons, based at Sutton Weaver in Cheshire, specialises in orthopaedic, soft tissue and spinal injury and internal medicine with support in anaesthesia, pain management and diagnostic imaging.

Following the acquisition, the company will continue to operate as a stand-alone brand within the Pets at Home Vet Group’s practice network.

Chris May and Crissi May, the current owners of Northwest Surgeons, will remain in the business for at least year to ensure a smooth transition.

It is Handforth-headquartered Pets at Home’s first move into specialist veterinary referrals.

Pets at Home chief executive Sally Hopson said: “This is an important strategic move for us as it offers an opportunity to capture an additional segment of the market.
