Development for ‘Tomorrow’ under way

WORK on a £20m development at Media City on Salford Quays featuring a 112-bed hotel, offices and studio space, branded Tomorrow, has started.

The project covers 100,00sq ft fronting on to Broadway and is designed to meet the increasing demand for the fast-growing creative and digital industries.

Constructor Bowmer and Kirkland have started using architectural plans completed by Chapman Taylor. Work is scheduled for completion by summer 2016.

Media City managing director Stephen Wild Said: “Media City has been a key trigger in the explosion of creative start-ups and national relocations so it’s essential that we give these businesses the right type of space and the flexibility to grow organically.

“The design of Tomorrow is experimental, quirky and a little bit different and what will be on offer at Tomorrow will be complementary to the state-of-the-art digital technology in broadcast & production, audio and virtual reality arena currently offered at the Landing and Dock10.

“Equally, MediaCityUK has become a thriving destination and our new hotel will be able to service the increasing number of people visiting the area”.

Tomorrow will be located in a 10-storey building, with four floors dedicated to the hotel (Premier Inn), while the remaining six will be for business use.

The office space will provide a blank canvas for occupiers to design their own creative space that is unique to their requirements.

The offices will have a studio/warehouse feel, with features including exposed ceilings.

Neil Brook, regional director for Bowmer and Kirkland said: “Bowmer and Kirkland is delighted to have been awarded this prestigious project for the Peel Group at Media City.  We hope that this will be the first of many projects as we continue to grow our business in the North West”.

Tomorrow will give businesses an extra option for location of commercial premises, adding to The Greenhouse, The Pie Factory, White, Orange and Blue Towers, The Landing, Digital World Centre, Quay West, The Victoria and The Alexandra.

As well as being home to the BBC, ITV, Coronation Street and the University of Salford, more than 200 smaller media and tech companies are now based at Media City.

Earlier this year the Peel announced Legal & General Capital as the new 50% shareholder in its landmark Media City scheme at Salford Quays, Manchester.

Salford City Council gave the green light to plans in September 2014.
