Week Ending: Campaign for crispy bacon; Clarion goes Back to the Future

THE great British bacon butty, the mainstay of breakfast for decades, is subject of a new campaign launched businessman John Falder.

Falder, who runs Manchester-based family business HMG Paints, said he’s fed up with being served-up soggy, fatty, under-done bacon, and wants hotels and cafes, to ensure crispy bacon is always on the menu.

He says: “The key message to all is complain about soggy bacon at every possible opportunity.

“We need to raise standards for the sake of all of those pigs that gave their lives to feed us and soggy and undercooked bacon is not the legacy that all the happy pigs would want to see.”

CHESHIRE wealth manager Clarion pulled out all the stops to mark its 30thClarion birthday on Thursday, as staff, clients and guests were invited Back to the Future.

To mark the milestone Clarion hired a replica of the Delorean car used in the iconic 1985 film that launched the career of Michael J Fox arrived at a party held to celebrate the firm’s 30th anniversary.

The stunning vehicle caused something of a stir in Knutsford – no mean feat considered how frequently super-cars are seen there.

Ron Walker, pictured in the car, founder and managing director of Clarion Wealth Planning said: “Just to have survived for 30 years is an achievement for any business but to be thriving, as we are, makes me feel very good indeed. Although the external environment has changed virtually beyond recognition over the past three decades I put Clarion’s continued success down to the fact that our top priority has always been to create a steady path for clients no matter what might be going on in the world around them.”

IT seems the marketing men have been quick off the mark – and within a week of breaking Sir Ian Botham’s record for Test wickets, Lancashire and England bowler Jimmy Anderson, has launched his own beer in association with brewer Marston’s.

Called ‘King of Swing’ the beer is a 3.8% pale ale and will be in shops in time for this summer’s Ashes’ Tests.

We’re sure the beer will be a big hit, though given Jimmy’s Red Rose credentials, are not quite so sure how it’ll go down in Yorkshire – where the beer is sure to be on sale after winning a listing with Bradford-based Morrisons.
