Squires lures Beachcroft’s employment supremo

LAW firm Squire Patton Boggs has made a key lateral hire with the appointment of DAC Beachcroft’s national head of employment and pensions, Paul Cole.

Cole, who joins as a partner in the firm’s Manchester office, says she was attracted by Squire Patton Boggs’ international reach and its “one firm mentality” to provide the best client service, regardless of geography.

She told TheBusinessDesk: “This is an unique opportunity for me to work in a global firm with a strong Manchester presence. Earlier in my career I worked for Andersen’s legal arm and I saw the benefit of a law firm having a global reach.

“I am really impressed already not only with the firm’s presence overseas, but with how connected Squires is with the Manchester corporate world. The firm’s global reach will be a great benefit to my clients as they grow and expand.”

Cole, who is recommended in both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500,  has more than 25 years’  experience. She has worked with a wide-range of clients, both domestic corporations and large multinationals, on all aspects of labour and employment. A higher education specialist, she has also represented a number of leading UK universities.

After Andersen Legal she joined DAC Beachcroft as a partner in 2002. She then became head of its Manchester team before taking over as the national group leader.  At Squire Patton Boggs, she becomes the 15th partner in its UK Labour & Employment team.

Alison Treliving, head of the firm’s Manchester Labour & Employment team added: “Our philosophy is to work in partnership with clients to navigate the ever-changing terrain of employment law, in the UK as well as overseas. Paula’s reputation as a leading lawyer and her impressive range of experience in all areas of employment law will be an asset to the Manchester office and indeed our entire global practice.”

Rob Elvin, office managing said: “The addition of Paula will further strengthen our already considerable and dynamic Labour & Employment practice in the North West, complementing our other practices and industry groups.”

The team has also announced the promotion of Bryn Doyle as a partner in the Manchester office.
