Ashcroft ends Chamber economist role

JOHN Ashcroft, chief executive of professional services group pro.manchester, is standing down from his part-time role with Greater Manchester Chamber.

Ashcroft, who has been working as chief economist for the e Chamber for two years, wants to focus on his portfolio career, and in particular his Saturday Economist e-newsletter.

He explains: “It has been great working with the team over the last two years, developing the Quarterly Economic Survey presentations and launching the important Manchester Index with the research team.

“Now is the chance to focus on the development of The Saturday Economist. We have plans to increase the mail out to over 100,000 businesses every week within the next few months.  I would like to thank Clive Memmott for creating the great opportunity for me to work with him and the senior GM Chamber of Commerce team over the last two years. A huge honour and tremendous fun.”

Alongside his role ar pro.manchester, which has 280 members, Ashcroft is also working on  plans for the launch of The Great Manchester Economics Conference taking place in October.

Clive Memmott, chief executive of the chamber said Ashcroft’s tenure had been a “great success” and helped the organisation to significantly build its economic capability.
 
“Our policy and research team will now work even more closely with the economics team at the British Chambers of Commerce to ensure that we deliver an accurate and relevant picture of the economic position in Greater Manchester and the wider region in the context of the overall performance of the UK economy.
 
“I’d like to thank John for the very significant, valuable and hugely enthusiastic contribution that he’s made and I look forward to working with him on other projects in the future.”
