Dog lameness cure firm gets six-figure boost
A LIVERPOOL company which has developed a surgical implant to cure lameness in dogs has received a second six-figure investment from The North West Fund for Venture Capital.
Fusion Implants, which was established two years ago as a spin-out from the University of Liverpool, produces veterinary implants using 3D printing techniques.
The company’s first product – an implant for use in canine knee reconstructions – is now widely used by veterinary practices throughout the UK.
The Fund’s initial investment in early 2014 helped to finance the product launch, including running training courses for vets and developing an app for use when planning operations.
The company has now secured a second-round investment to fund further research and development.
Dr Dan Jones, director at Fusion Implants, said: “We are working closely with our veterinary surgeon customers to provide the next generation of animal implants.
“New products will include further knee implants to cater for other surgical problems, advances in surgical instrumentation to simplify the operative procedures and implants for specific breeds of dogs.”
Lisa Ward of Enterprise Ventures, which manages The North West Fund for Venture Capital, said: “Fusion has exceeded its targets since the initial investment last year. This latest funding round will allow it to further develop its sales and distribution network and expand its product range.”
