Record year for Turner Parkinson

TURNER Parkinson, the independent Manchester-based business law firm has reported a 14% surge in turnover to a record £6.5m.

The 20-year-old firm, based just off Bridge Street in the city centre, said its success was down to a pick-up in confidence in the mid-market, which is its focus.

The firm said it was particularly please with its growth as it was achieved organically – no mergers, new office launches or partner recruitment.

Managing partner Mark Openshaw-Blower, said: “We’ve been growing both sales and profits well since 2011 and in that time we have restructured several of our teams to focus on the quality of our services and to re-position ourselves as a pure business law firm. To have performed to the level we have with no lateral hires – pure organic growth – is a really good result for us.

“It is still a fairly difficult environment for law firms, but we are well positioned as the number onealternative to the much larger, multi-office branded firms in the North West market.”

Head of corporate James Sheridan said it was not just the corporate finance market that had picked-up in the year to the end of April, but the firm’s real estate team too.

He said: “The improved economic conditions, fuelled really by a steady rise in business confidence over the last 18 months or so, has seen our real estate business spring into life again and they have had a stellar year working on a series of multi-million pound deals for a combination of real estate funds, corporates and investors.

“We continue to be recognised as one of the leading corporate deals teams in the region, and certainly the leading independent player in the market.  Our deal volume and value figures continue to increase year on year.”
