It’s lights, camera, action again for movie house

A FAMILY of movie lovers is set to breathe life into The Savoy Cinema in the Stockport suburb of Heaton Moor.

The property has been acquired by the Mundin family, who have a proven track record in restored cinemas, in a deal brokered by Roger Hannah & Co.

The Mundins, who also own The Ritz in Belper and The Regal in Melton Mowbray, are set to start work on a £250,000 refurbishment of The Savoy.

The building will be transformed into a modern picture house showing a mix of commercial, cultural and classic films.

The auditorium will have seating for 125 and will include the options of luxury armchairs and sofas for two.

There will be the latest digital projection and surround sound. The foyer will be completely re-modelled to offer comfortable seating and a café bar where pre-film refreshments will be served.

Amanda Mundin has run the successful Ritz Cinema in Derbyshire for more than eight years and her son Jacob and wife Bryony currently operate The Regal Cinema in Leicestershire.

Her husband Tony said: “We are very much looking forward to bringing The Savoy back to its former glory.

“Cinema plays an important part in many communities and we can feel The Savoy will be no exception.

“We are very excited and hope to be able to offer a fantastic local amenity, with something for everyone, every day of the week – we want to bring vibrancy to that part of town and create a buzz that will be felt all around.”
