Week Ending: Business Heavyweights revealed & Monkey business at KPMG

SECONDS out… round two of Business Heavyweights – the white collar boxing event – is nearly upon us.

Week Ending can reveal the 10 intrepid amateur pugilists who will step into the ring on June 24 at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.

The aim is to beat the £90,000 raised for local charity last year, and reach a mimimum of £100,000 for the Factory Youth Zone in Harphurhey and Gorton Mount Primary Academy.

The contenders are:

Richard ‘Dickie the Dog’ Millman, chief executive of Total Fitness;
Dominic ‘The Corsican Scorpion’ Orsini, associate director at Altium;
Bob ‘No Name’ Nicholson, head of property development at Pochins;
Matt ‘Maverick’ Currie, assistant director, financial sponsors at RBS;
Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Morris, chief executive of Citation;
Simon ’The Hammer’ Fagan, founding partner of Aticus Law;
Byron ‘The Berserker’ Evans, associate director at MC2;
Richard ‘Beardo’ Beard, relationship director at CIB Future, Williams and Glyn;
Michael ‘The Hitman’ Hewett, senior manager at Deloitte and the returning
John ’The Freak’ Fowler, consultant at UK Fire Doors.

HE’S helped sporting stars like Ronnie O’Sullivan, Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton achieve great things, and also worked with footballers Craig Bellamy and Steven Gerrard to achieve their goals, so it was fascinating to hear top psychiatrist Dr Steve Peters bring his theory to business leaders on Thursday.

Peters’ theory is that we all need to learn to control our ‘inner chimp’ – the emotional side of the brain, which causes us to flare-up, or lose control.

Hosted by KPMG Enterprise, Week Ending heard one executive muttering to a colleague as he left: ‘Right, I’d better get back to the zoo then’.
