Maltacourt Hungary for Eastern European growth

SPECIALIST logistics provider Maltacourt has bolstered its international presence with an acquisition in Hungary.

The Runcorn-based company has snapped-up Mili-Cargo with the financial support of The Royal Bank of Scotland.

Mili-Cargo provides international distribution of chilled and ambient loads and operates a fleet of 50 trucks which will add significantly to Maltacourt’s capabilities in Hungary and across the EU.

The company’s founder, István Madarász, who has 25 years’ experience in the freight sector, is remaining as managing director.

Maltacourt has been driving growth within its Hungarian business over the past 12 months extending its capabilities beyond freight forwarding into specialist road distribution.  Its revenues in Hungary have grown from €5.9m in 2014 to €17.5m.

Matt Beech, chief executive of Maltacourt said: “We have been strategically expanding our service offering, deepening our capabilities and growing the business assets. We set out just over a year ago with a plan to significantly grow our Hungarian business and I’m thrilled with the success so far. We’re an ambitious business and we hope to share further exciting news in the coming months”.

Andy Matley, senior relationship manager at RBS added: “We have forged an excellent relationship with Matt and have sound knowledge of his business aspirations for Hungary and the wider EU.  The Mili-Cargo acquisition is testament to Matt’s capability of capitalising on opportunities that present themselves for the benefit of all.”

Operating from its transport depot in Székesfehérvár, close to Maltacourt’s base on the outskirts of Budapest, Mili-Cargo’s clients include consumer products giant Unilever.

István Madarász said: “We are delighted to be working with Maltacourt, we’ve seen them grow and to now be a part of that is really exciting. I look forward to combining our strengths and capabilities to bring significant value to our existing and new customers.”
