Legal news: JMW; An encore for Sir Tom & more

JMW Solicitors is launching a holiday accident claims team.

Led by solicitor Michael Walker,  the new unit’s remit will include claims arising from mishaps abroad, including cases of food poisoning, trips and slips in and around hotel complexes and resorts, and road traffic collisions that have happened on foreign roads.

Walker said: “Ever since I joined JMW, I’ve noticed that we’ve received numerous enquiries from individuals who have suffered accidents abroad.  Many of these people have had their holidays destroyed thanks to something that could have been avoided if hoteliers or tour operators had taken care to fix.

“That could be, for example, unhygienic food that’s been served to them by their hotel, or an unsafe fitting in their hotel room. ”

The team, including solicitors Jemma Goldstone and Raana Afsarpour, has developed a strong social media offering to communicate with new, potential and existing clients.

The holiday team is available on Twitter: @jmwholidayteam and Facebook: www.facebook.com/JMWHolidayClaims .

A NORTH West law firm has played its part in helping stage an additional concert by Sir Tom Jones at a festival.

Licensing experts at Harrison Drury, which has offices in Preston, Lancaster and Kendal, have helped Lancashire-based concert promotion company Cuffe and Taylor add a fifth night of entertainment at the Greenwich Music Time (GMT).

The event takes place on the banks of the River Thames in the grounds of The Old Royal Naval College.

It means the festival, being held July 22 to 26, can now host an additional Sir Tom Jones headline slot, alongside other headliners Flamenco Musicians, Gipsy Kings, Kinks front man Ray Davies, and 10-times Grammy award winner George Benson.

Greenwich Music time stormed on to the festival scene in 2014 with performances from The Australian Pink Floyd show, Goldfrapp, Jools Holland and Salford’s Russell Watson.

Harrison Drury helped Cuffe and Taylor gain a variation to its existing licence, allowing it to put on the extra show after Tom Jones had sold out his original slot.

David Edwards, who leads Harrison Drury’s regulatory and licensing teams, said: “Last year’s Greenwich Music Time was a tremendous success. Securing an extra night of entertainment to accommodate a second performance from the legendary Tom Jones means this year’s event will be even more spectacular.”
