B&M job creation spree continues

RETAILER B&M Bargains is creating 500 jobs at two new warehouse and distribution centres in the region.

The fast-growing discounter, which is in the midst of an aggressive store opening drive, is creating the jobs in Runcorn and Middlewich.

The 350,000 sq ft site at Onyx350, Runcorn,  became operational this month, while the larger facility, at 460,000 sq ft on Pochin Way, Middlewich near the M6, will come on stream in September.

Mike Benson, distribution director said: “We are delighted to have agreed terms to acquire these premises which had both been vacant for some years. In doing so, we are creating much needed employment for Class 1 HGV drivers, warehouse operatives and supervisors.

“These high bay, modern facilities are either strategically located on the M6 motorway network or convenient for our primary distribution centre in Liverpool, and a much-needed improvement on our legacy warehousing.”

250 jobs will be created at each site, as well as transfers from the company’s other warehouses in the North West.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool company is creating 60 jobs at Trafford Retail Park at the former Comet store.

The new store near the M60 at Urmston, opens on July 31.
