Week Ending: Bruntwood’s ‘roasted chickens’; Going the extra mile; KPMG in the pitlane

IT seems business charity fundraisers are going to ever-more extreme lengths to for their good causes.

Bruntwood’s director of property marketing Colin Sinclair and colleagues, Colin Forshaw and Matt Lee cycled fron London to Paris wearing chicken suits as they raised £13,000 for the Liverpool’s Claire House children’s hospice.

Defying, heat, high winds, bicycle malfunction, the intrepid trio completed the 350-mile trip last weekend, reaching the Eiffel Tower, relatively unscathed.

Lee said: “The final day was great fun but very hot as we cycled through towns and villages and finally into Paris dressed as chickens. By the time we arrived at the Eiffel Tower we were suitably roasted.”

Meanwhile Jason Lowe, a partner and financial planner at Wilmslow wealth firm Equilibrium Asset Management, took a the phrase “going the extra mile” to something of an extreme as he raised £8,000 for Reuben’s Retreat on a 364-mile rise from Geneva to Nice.

Lowe explains: “I’ve never been known for my sense of direction and on the second day, which was also the longest at 90 miles, I went the wrong way and ended up cycling 105 miles in 30-degree heat.

“This meant I actually cycled further than anyone else in the 36-strong group, which surprised everyone since the furthest I’d cycled before taking on this challenge was only 53 miles.”

60th birthday celebrations at the family-owned logistics and food storage business Yearsley culminated last weekend with a big bash at Bolton’s Macron Stadium for all 650 employees from across the country.

Alongside the posh frocks and penguin suits, there was one stand-out performer, logistics director Tim Moran, who donned high heels and hotpants to appear as his lookalike ‘Dave’ the strutting character from  the Moneysupermarket.com ad.

Sources at Yearsley insist red high heels will not be compulsory in the warehouse, at least not for another 60 years.

ATTENDEES at KPMG’s Audit E3 Careers Event at the Manchester Central on Wednesday, got a surprise when the KPMG McLaren Pit Stop Challenge rolled into town.

Expecting to attend a conference aimed at helping them make crucial decisions about their future progression in audit, the 80-plus guests from across the North were also given the opportunity to pit their wits against their peers at the Formula 1 car wheel-changing challenge.

It seems that some may have hidden talents as the winning team of the 28 that took part, achieved a time of 2.79 seconds – a stunning achievement given that McLaren’s professional pitlane team usually take 2 seconds!

Unsurprisingly the Manchester time broke the record set by the amateur team who won the London Pit Stop challenge in December 2014.

Later that day the challenge was extended to all colleagues at the Manchester office, who were invited to come down to the venue at the end of the day and try their luck.
