Innovation driving Duo UK forward

FAMILY-owned manufacturing company Duo UK is continuing to invest and innovate.

The £23m turnover plastics manufacturer based on Vickers Street in east Manchester, has ramped-up production for  click and collect bags amid high demand from e-commerce companies like ASOS.

Duo, which is owned and run by the Brimelow family, has invested £25,000 in machine modifications to meet increasing demand for mailing bags that feature a handle.

The business says there is a rising demand for mailing bags with a handle that retaiil customer such as John Lewis and ASOS use to fulfil click and collect orders.

The investment has been made in modifying a current machine to enable it to produce an additional 20 million mailing bags of this kind a year.

Operations director, Dale Brimelow said: “Listening to our customers and being able to react quickly to trends we see in their industry has always been something we pride ourselves on. Many of the brands that we work with are significantly extending their delivery and collection services, and as such ‘click and collect’ is becoming the preferred way to shop for many busy Internet shoppers.

“The investment means we’ll now be able produce 14% more of this style mail order bag each week resulting in significantly improved productivity and faster lead times for our clients.”

Earlier this year the company launched DuoGreen, three producs made using 100% recycled polythene film, which it is expecting to be highly popular as part of customers’ sustainability agenda.

The company is also finalising an investment  in a start-up company called Lupeezee, which is behind a new product called Little Fab Bag, soon to be listed in Waitrose, for carrying sanitary products.

As part of the deal, commercial director Anthony Brimelow will take a seat on  the board of Lupeeze.
