Engineering recruiter doubles headcount

MANCHESTER-based specialist recruitment agency Cordant Technical & Engineering is expanding its team of consultants in response to a significant uplift for jobs in the engineering sector.

It is now looking for 12 more consultants to add to its current staff of 25 and has further plans to increase the total number to 72.

Established 21 years ago, Cordant recruits for permanent and contract roles all over the UK and abroad. Its clients include many of the major engineering companies including ABB, Bureau Veritas, Doosan Babcock and Weir Power & Industrial.

Cordant Technical & Engineering is part of Cordant Recruitment, which has the backing of the £720m Cordant Group.

Cordant has established its headquarters at 1 St James’ Square, Manchester. It has committed £2m towards attracting and retaining staff, £300,000 of which has been spent on a major refurbishment and state-of-the-art technology in its 6,000sq ft office.

The new roles are for permanent and contract consultants in infrastructure, renewables, aerospace and defence and to add to the existing recruitment teams specialising in technology, power transmission & distribution, nuclear power & process.

Applicants could be experienced sector consultants, or non-industry-specific recruitment consultants, however the company will also consider sales people or engineers who want to move into technical recruitment.

Managing director Shaun Simmons said: “Over the last 12 months we’ve seen a significant uplift in demand from all our clients.

“Engineering as an industry has always had a skills gap and we are looking at new and creative ways of filling those roles, particularly attracting women into the industry.

“Attracting the right people into our own team is absolutely crucial and we can offer them one of the best working environments in the area and opportunities to carve out a career in an exciting and growing industry.”
