Passenger numbers up 7% at Liverpool JLA

PASSENGER numbers at Liverpool John Lennon Airport have continued to increase during the busy peak summer holiday period, with latest statistics showing a 7% increase during the third quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2014.

The news came on the day that one of the Airport’s newest airlines, Blue Air announced it will add a third destination to its growing operations from LJLA.

The Romanian airline will commence a twice weekly service to Cluj, Romania’s second largest city, to complement their already successful flights to the Romanian capital, Bucharest and Bacau in the North East of the country.

Flights will start on June 6 2016, departing from Liverpool on Mondays and Fridays at 5.35pm

With monthly passenger numbers at LJLA having increased each month since February, the latest figures take growth at Liverpool to 6% for the first three quarters of 2015 compared to the same period last year.

Airport bosses say this continues to reflect the recent upsurge in business at the Airport following the addition of a number of new routes and airlines now operating from Liverpool.

The growth in passenger numbers is forecast to continue for the remainder of the year too, with Flybe set to commence its daily service to Edinburgh and Aer Lingus its 16 departures per week to Dublin with onward connections to the US, both from the end of this month.

Andrew Cornish, chief executive of LJLA said: “This is an exciting time for the Airport with airlines such as Blue Air recognising the tremendous opportunities available to grow their business from here.

“Over the past 12 months we have secured flights from 5 new airlines, announced 12 new services to 8 new destinations, bringing over 90 additional flights per week.”
